LFP Chief Quillot: “Our league is suspended, not cancelled & will therefore pick up again & be completed.”

Speaking at a press gaggle following the LFP’s announcement that it was suspending Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 action with immediate effect owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, the body’s CEO Didier Quillot was affirmative on the fact that these seasons would be completed and not abandoned.

“UEFA are going to decide some things, today, we don’t really know what. They are going to decide some things which might free up some dates. If UEFA free up these dates… When a league is suspended, it must pick up again & therefore must be completed. For that, you need, firstly, to watch the evolution of the health risks, secondly to see which dates UEFA might free up, some of you are talking about, with the question marks around the Euros, evidently that is what we are talking about when we are talking about dates being freed up. Adapting is taking into account the health risks and looking at the calendar after UEFA’s decisions. For us, our league is suspended, not cancelled and therefore will pick up again and will be completed.”
